Election Arrangements Complete in GBA-12 Shigar, Says DRO Sher Afzal
Shigar: District Returning Officer (DRO) for GBA-12 Shigar, Sher Afzal, has said that all arrangements for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections have been finalised and the district is fully prepared for polling on June 7.
Speaking at a media briefing, he said 71 polling stations have been established across the constituency, with polling staff duly deployed. Election materials have been dispatched and delivered to all polling stations to ensure the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
The DRO said comprehensive security measures have been put in place, with police and other law enforcement agencies on high alert. Of the total polling stations, 17 have been declared very sensitive and 25 sensitive, requiring enhanced security arrangements.
Sher Afzal expressed confidence that voters would be able to exercise their democratic right in a peaceful environment. He added that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.
Polling will take place on June 7 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm without any break. The district administration and Election Commission have expressed satisfaction over the preparedness and coordination for the upcoming polls.

In a significant development ahead of the Gilgit-Baltistan elections, Istehkam Pakistan Party (IPP) candidate Eiman Shah has announced his withdrawal from the electoral contest in GBA-6 Hunza and declared his support for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Shah Saleem Khan.
The announcement was made during a press conference held in Hunza on Friday, where Eiman Shah said he had decided to step down from the race in the broader interest of the constituency and to support a candidate he believes can effectively represent the people of Hunza.
Addressing journalists, Shah urged his supporters and party workers to back Shah Saleem Khan in the upcoming election, expressing confidence in his leadership and vision for the region.
