The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is at the epicenter of a complex conflict, with its economic and security interests severely impacted by the ongoing crisis.
Jassim Al-Budaiwi, the GCC Secretary-General, addressed the UN Security Council, highlighting the devastating effects of Iran’s aggressive actions, particularly its disruption of critical maritime trade routes that underpin the global economy.
In a significant departure from previous statements, Al-Budaiwi outlined three key requirements. This marks a pivotal moment, as the GCC has never been more forthright in its demands.
First and foremost, the GCC is calling for an immediate cessation of Iranian attacks, directly appealing to the Security Council to take decisive action against Iran.
Secondly, the GCC is seeking robust protection for its vital maritime corridors, warning that the Houthis, backed by Iran, pose a significant threat to the Bab al-Mandeb Strait and the Strait of Hormuz, with far-reaching consequences for the global economy.
The third and most significant demand is a new development. The GCC is now seeking not only a seat at the negotiating table but also a more active role in the entire peace process, to ensure that its interests are accurately represented and safeguarded in any eventual peace settlement.

The Israeli Defense Forces have announced a military operation targeting key command facilities allegedly utilized by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to channel financial support to militant organizations, including Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthi rebels in Yemen. According to an Israeli statement on X, these centers were also purportedly involved in financing and bolstering Iran’s armed forces, although no concrete evidence was provided to substantiate these assertions.
