UNESCO Urged to Denounce Israel’s Railway Threat by Iranian Cultural Official
A formal letter from Iran’s culture minister has been dispatched to UNESCO, requesting the international body to publicly denounce Israel’s alleged intention to target the country’s extensive railway network, according to a report by the ISNA news agency.
The 1,394km trans-Iranian railway, a vital transportation artery spanning the nation from the Caspian Sea in the north to the Gulf in the south, was designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2021, in recognition of its impressive scale and the engineering feats required to overcome challenging terrain and obstacles.
The minister characterized the threat as a brazen assault on the shared cultural heritage of humanity and urged UNESCO to swiftly adopt a clear stance to prevent potential Israeli military aggression, as per ISNA’s report.
