Skardu (KDU) Airport
Skardu Airport is located in Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. It is the sole international airport serving the Northern Areas and Gilgit Baltistan region of Pakistan. Skardu Airport boasts three runways, of which two are operational, capable of accommodating more than 12 planes simultaneously.
Skardu Airport was officially granted international status on December 2, 2021, following extensive upgrades aimed at transforming it into a tourism hub for Gilgit-Baltistan. On August 14, 2023, Pakistan International Airlines operated the first international flight from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, landing at Skardu Airport. This momentous event represents a significant leap forward in the promotion of tourism within the region.
Skardu Airport is equipped with a passenger lounge providing essential amenities. Furthermore, expansion work on the terminal is currently in progress to create a world-class international airport lounge. This development aims to enhance the overall passenger experience by offering comfortable seating, dining options, and facilities such as restrooms, washrooms, and duty-free shops. It will also cater to the needs of international travelers, ensuring a seamless and convenient journey for all visitors to the airport.
Flight Operations
Currently, Skardu Airport (KDU) operates flights to and from Dubai, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Multan. Flights between Skardu and Islamabad operate throughout the year.
Skardu Airport plays a pivotal role in the tourism industry of Pakistan, facilitating trekkers, climbers, and other tourists’ access to Gilgit Baltistan. It serves as the gateway to the Karakoram Mountains, including K2, Gasherbrum, Broad Peak, Baltoro glaciers, Deosai National Park, Hushe Valley, Khaplu Valley, Shigar Valley, Kharmang and various other destinations. Moreover, it serves as an entry point for international tourists who wish to visit Nanga Parbat Fairy Meadows, Hunza, Rakaposhi Nagar, Chitral, and other destinations of northern Pakistan.
