Skardu: Skardu experienced a significant boost in tourism as 12 Airbus planes successfully landed at Skardu airport on Thursday. This surge in tourist arrivals marks a promising trend for the region.
Skardu Airport is the only airport in Gilgit-Baltistan where Airbus planes can land. Two years ago, former Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated Skardu International Airport, but international flights could not be started until then. Skardu Airport is the sole international airport in Gilgit-Baltistan with the capacity to accommodate large aircraft.
Granting Skardu International Airport status will attract a significant number of international tourists to Gilgit-Baltistan, as the region boasts five out of the world’s ten largest mountains, all above 8000 meters. For this reason, it is crucial to upgrade Skardu Airport to an all-weather airport, ensuring that planes can land here in all weather conditions. Transforming Skardu Airport into an all-weather and international airport will undoubtedly have a profound impact on Pakistan’s economy, leading to an increase in the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
