PCB Evaluates Two Timelines for PSL 12 Schedule

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been weighing two potential scheduling windows for Pakistan Super League (PSL) 12, with the tournament likely to take place either in February-March or April-May 2027. This decision was discussed during a meeting between PCB officials and franchise representatives. The cricket committee will convene for further deliberations before submitting its final proposal. The previous two seasons, PSL 10 in 2025 and PSL 11 in 2026, were scheduled in April and May, placing the tournament in direct competition with the Indian Premier League (IPL). By reverting to its traditional February-March window, PSL 12 would avoid an IPL clash and enhance the chances of securing top overseas players for the entire tournament. Additionally, the meeting highlighted the benefits of cooler weather and stronger commercial opportunities for sponsors. However, the earlier window could overlap with other international franchise leagues and the holy month of Ramadan, creating scheduling and logistical complexities. Holding the tournament in April-May would again limit the availability of overseas players due to the IPL. The PCB would also have to contend with intense summer heat and a possible clash with school examinations. The meeting also touched upon the introduction of a Super Six stage. However, this proposal is contingent upon the resolution of outstanding financial matters involving one of the PSL’s major commercial stakeholders. PCB officials raised concerns over the alleged non-payment of outstanding dues and reminded the company’s representative of its contractual obligations. They reportedly cautioned that no further payment delays would be tolerated. Franchise owners supported stringent action, arguing that teams face penalties for delayed payments and that the same rules should apply to commercial partners. The matter is expected to be resolved by Monday following a series of board meetings over the weekend. Another proposal would enable the PCB to recover unpaid commercial dues by adjusting them against a company’s franchise fee if the same company owns a PSL team and also holds separate commercial agreements with the league. The PCB also extended an invitation to franchise owners to attend Pakistan’s upcoming Test against England at Lord’s and offered to cover their travel and accommodation expenses.
