Ghanche, Skardu, and Shigar to be Connected by One Highway: Tri-District Convergence

Islamabad: On August 5, 2023, a meeting was held at the office of consultant AZMEC Islamabad regarding Shah e Hamadan Highway, District Ghanche. According to Engineer Nazir Hussain , a detailed review of all the technical aspects of the said project and possible aspects of its timely completion were discussed. Engineer Abid Hussain, MD of Consultancy Service, presented a detailed review. The project includes roads from Keris to Saling 72 km and Daghoni to Shamdun Polo Ground Thaley 30 km.

Furthermore, two bridges are also included. These roads will be built with paver machines. The road width is recommended to be 8.20 meters in urban areas and 10.05 meters in plains. After the completion of this road, the distance between Skardu and district headquarters Khaplu will be reduced from two hours to one hour and thirty minutes. The consultant has been directed to renew PC-1 at the schedule rate of 2022.

It should be noted that the Gilgit-Baltistan Public Works Department has already delivered this PC-1 to the Planning and Development Department. This project will accelerate the development of the area as economic development depends on better communications. In the second phase, Dagoni Shamdun Road will be connected to Shigar Khas, the district headquarters of Shigar, which will give a big boost to the tourism sector in the region. This tri-district highway will connect Skardu , Shigar and Ghanche districts.
