Lebanon Blast Leaves Three UN Peacekeepers Injured

A sudden explosion within a United Nations position in Lebanon has left three peacekeepers injured, marking the third incident of its kind in a week.

UNIFIL spokesperson Kandice Ardiel released a statement detailing the incident, which occurred in the afternoon. “An explosion occurred within our position, resulting in injuries to three peacekeepers, two of whom are in critical condition,” Ardiel stated. “They are currently being airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, and we are still investigating the cause of the blast.”

This latest incident follows two previous explosions that occurred over the weekend, resulting in the deaths of an Indonesian peacekeeper and two more Indonesian troops. According to UN records, 97 force members have lost their lives in violence since UNIFIL’s inception in 1978, when the mission was established to monitor the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon. UNIFIL’s mandate is set to expire at the end of this year.
