Last-Minute Efforts Underway for 45-Day Truce in Ongoing Conflict

A report from Axios suggests that US, Iranian, and regional diplomats are engaged in intense discussions regarding the terms of a potential 45-day ceasefire that could ultimately bring an end to the ongoing hostilities. Sources privy to the negotiations, including four US, Israeli, and regional officials, have shared information with Axios regarding the talks. These sources revealed that Pakistani, Egyptian, and Turkish mediators are facilitating the dialogue, as well as direct communication between US envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi through text messages.

According to the sources, the likelihood of securing a partial agreement within the next 48 hours is considered low. Iranian officials have expressed concerns to the mediators that they do not wish to be placed in a situation akin to Gaza or Lebanon, where a formal truce exists but is vulnerable to being breached by the US and Israel at will.
