For Nguyen, a motorbike driver based in Ho Chi Minh City, the rising fuel costs have become a substantial burden. He revealed that on a typical day, he spends nearly half of his earnings on petrol. According to Nguyen, who uses the Vietnamese super-app Be to connect with passengers, a long day of driving – around seven or eight hours – yields approximately 240,000 Vietnamese dong ($9.11), but he then has to pay 120,000 Vietnamese dong ($4.56) for petrol.
