Javad Zarif, Iran’s former foreign minister and a key architect of the 2015 nuclear accord, has issued a scathing rebuke of Donald Trump’s aggressive rhetoric, warning of dire consequences for the United States.
In a social media post, Zarif targeted Trump’s recent ultimatum regarding the Strait of Hormuz, drawing attention to a devastating attack on a school in Minab that claimed the lives of 170 innocent children.
“The Iranian government will not hesitate to defend its interests, but I urge you to take heed of this warning for your own sake: the cycle of aggression began with a heinous war crime, and your actions will only serve to exacerbate the situation,” Zarif wrote.
Trump’s inflammatory comments, which Zarif described as a “desperate and crass outburst,” have sparked international concern, with the diplomat warning that complicity in such actions will incur international criminal responsibility.
