Lebanon Mourns Loss as Tensions with Israel and Hezbollah Escalate

In a somber atmosphere, mourners in Lebanon have come together to lay to rest Pierre Mouawad, a prominent figure in the Lebanese Forces (LF), a Christian party, who tragically lost his life along with his wife Flavia and another woman on Easter Sunday.

Pierre’s sister, Raymonda Mouawad, expressed her outrage over her brother’s untimely death at the hands of an Israeli missile, which she believes was an unfortunate consequence of a conflict he had no involvement in. Speaking at a church just outside Beirut, she passionately declared, “We should not be held accountable for the mistakes of others.”

Her sentiments were echoed in a stark statement: “We’re finished with Israel and Hezbollah; that’s all I want to say.” The devastating strike targeted a residential building in Ain Saadeh, a suburb east of Beirut, marking the latest in a series of Israeli attacks that have extended beyond Hezbollah’s traditional strongholds.

The LF party has long been a vocal critic of Hezbollah, which ignited the broader Middle East conflict on March 2 with a rocket attack on Israel in support of Iran. This provocative move prompted an Israeli invasion, resulting in the military’s deep penetration into Lebanon, the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, and an aerial campaign that has claimed the lives of over 1,500 individuals, according to Lebanese authorities.
