UN Concludes Preliminary Findings Implicate Israel, Hezbollah in Fatal Incidents Against Peacekeepers

A preliminary investigation by the UN has shed light on a series of recent incidents in southern Lebanon, where Israeli forces are engaged in combat with Hezbollah, resulting in the loss of UN peacekeepers.
According to a UN spokesperson, a peacekeeper serving with the UN’s Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was fatally struck by a projectile fired from an Israeli tank in the vicinity of Ett-Taibe on March 29.
The following day, two additional UNIFIL peacekeepers lost their lives after being targeted by an explosive device that the UN believes was likely planted by Hezbollah, the spokesperson disclosed.
All three peacekeepers who perished were Indonesian nationals. The UN spokesperson emphasized that the organization’s assessment is based on initial physical evidence and that a comprehensive investigation is still underway.
The spokesperson condemned the incidents as “unacceptable,” highlighting that attacks on UN peacekeepers may be considered war crimes under international law.
