Indonesia Leads Global Outcry Against Lebanon Violence Targeting Peacekeepers

In a unified stance, over 60 nations have rallied behind Indonesia’s UN envoy Umar Hadi to denounce the relentless assaults on UNIFIL personnel in Lebanon, particularly the tragic loss of three Indonesian peacekeepers in recent incidents. The joint declaration, signed by multiple ambassadors, unequivocally condemns the ongoing violence against UNIFIL forces, which also left peacekeepers from France, Ghana, Indonesia, Nepal, and Poland wounded in southern Lebanon.

The international community has voiced its profound concerns regarding the dire humanitarian situation in Lebanon, marked by an alarming number of civilian casualties, extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, and the displacement of more than one million people. Preliminary UN investigations suggest that one peacekeeper was fatally struck by Israeli tank fire on March 29, while two others lost their lives the following day due to an explosive device, which the UN believes was most likely planted by Hezbollah.
