Gilgit (staff reporter) – Pakistan Peoples Party leader Nasrat Hussain said that if PPP awards its ticket to Kashif Banjui, a major shift in the electoral dynamics of Astor NA‑2 is likely. The political temperature in Astor is rising as the young candidate Kashif Banjui’s growing popularity is stirring traditional political circles. Hussain claimed that with the PPP ticket, Banjui could completely change the election outcome thanks to his three strong vote banks. The first pillar is PPP’s traditional vote bank; a large number of local Jial community members and party ideological workers in the constituency appear impressed by Banjui’s public outreach and dynamic leadership. If he receives the ticket, this organized PPP vote bank will provide a solid foundation for his success. The second and most important pillar is the Bunji tribe’s vote bank. In NA‑2, the Bunji family’s vote is known as a united and decisive block that usually votes unanimously for a candidate from its own community. Banjui is being seen as the rightful heir of this hereditary vote bank, so he is expected to receive the block’s full bonus without any dissent. The third pillar is his tribal influence and personal integrity. Tribal affiliations form the backbone of Astor politics. Through practical thinking and indiscriminate public services, Banjui has also earned sympathy from other tribes. Political analysts say the combination of PPP’s ideological vote, the Bunji tribe’s traditional strength, and broader tribal support will pose major challenges for any rival candidate. Given his popularity among the area’s youth and his development vision, it is said that if he gets the ticket, the future of NA‑2 could be in the hands of a young, capable leader. Public attention now rests on the party leadership’s decision, which will set the new political direction for the constituency.
