Skardu (Chief Reporter) – The interim president and cabinet members of the Baltistan Traders Association took their oaths. The association’s patron, Senior Minister Muhammad Iqbal, swore in the interim president, while cabinet members were sworn in by interim president Haji Asgari. The oath‑taking ceremony was held at a local hotel in Skardu and was attended by prominent traders from across the region. During the event, former president Ghulam Hussain Athar and his cabinet were praised for their services, and a renewed commitment was expressed that the new cabinet will address merchants’ problems with fresh initiatives. It was also hoped that former president Ghulam Hussain Athar will continue to mentor the interim cabinet with his advice. Interim president Haji Asgari stated, “I will do everything possible to fulfill the responsibilities placed on my shoulders and ensure a timely, transparent, and impartial presidential election for the Traders Association, free from any bias.” He pledged to work for the association’s success, activity, and the welfare of traders, consulting with all merchants, including former president Ghulam Hussain. He emphasized that traders must unite to fight for their rights, as disunity leaves their rights unprotected. The association’s biggest challenges include electricity shortages and restrictive entry for cargo vehicles into the city, which hinder trade. Former senior vice‑president Syed Taqi Sabzwari and former general secretary Ahmed Choshgari noted that the former president’s valuable contributions cannot be forgotten. The new cabinet is expected to meet the Chief Election Commissioner to expedite the association’s elections. Senior Minister Muhammad Iqbal, patron of the Traders Association, affirmed that the association has become a strong and vibrant institution guaranteeing traders’ issues, and expressed confidence that its officials will continue their work with renewed energy and determination.
