Pakistan’s Talented Fast Bowler Set to Join PSL 12 Ranks as Overseas Player

Pakistan’s former fast bowler Mohammad Amir has made it official that he will be competing as an overseas player in the 2027 Pakistan Super League (PSL 12) following his acquisition of British citizenship. In an interview on the Wisden Pod, Amir disclosed that he will no longer be categorized as a local player in the PSL, implying that franchises will have to allocate one of their overseas slots if they wish to secure his services next season. Having previously played the 2026 PSL as a local player for RawalPindiz, Amir is currently registered as a domestic player for Trent Rockets in The Hundred, following the receipt of his British passport. After joining Trent Rockets as a replacement for the injured David Payne, Amir has made an instant impact in the competition, showcasing his skills in four appearances. During this time, he has bowled his full quota of 80 balls, conceding just 113 runs while taking four wickets. His standout performance came against Sunrisers Leeds, where he claimed 2/20 to contribute to Rockets’ thrilling five-run victory. Reports suggest that the 2027 edition is likely to be Amir’s last appearance in the PSL before he hangs up his boots from Pakistan’s premier T20 league. Having initially retired from international cricket in 2020, Amir made a comeback ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, only to announce his retirement once again following the tournament, bringing an end to his international career with 271 wickets across 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 62 T20Is. At 34 years of age, Amir remains one of Pakistan’s most iconic fast bowlers, particularly for his match-winning spell in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final against India, where he dismissed Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan to help Pakistan lift the coveted title.
