The recent performances of Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) have raised eyebrows, as both mystery spinners have seen a significant downturn compared to their impressive showings in the previous season. Abrar Ahmed’s entry into PSL 2026 followed a standout 2025 season, where he claimed 17 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 19.23, coupled with an economy rate of 7.34 and a strike rate of 15.7, making him a force to be reckoned with in the tournament. However, the 2026 season has been a far cry from his previous success, with Abrar managing only 9 wickets in 10 matches, while his bowling average skyrocketed to 36.77 and his strike rate increased to 26. His economy rate also rose to 8.48. Similarly, Usman Tariq’s form has taken a hit in PSL 2026. The mystery spinner was one of the breakout stars of PSL 2025, taking 10 wickets in just five matches with a remarkable average of 15.9 and a strike rate of 12. In contrast, Tariq picked up 9 wickets in 10 matches in PSL 2026, with his bowling average increasing sharply to 33.55, while his strike rate climbed to 26.6. Although his economy rate slightly improved from 7.95 to 7.55, the wicket-taking impact seen last season has largely diminished. Despite their struggles in PSL 11, both bowlers remain in the spotlight, with mid-season reviews identifying Abrar as one of the notable wicket-taking wrist spinners in the competition, while Usman Tariq’s performances were described as one of Quetta Gladiators’ major disappointments this season. Interestingly, both spinners continue to attract interest in franchise cricket, with Usman Tariq signing with Warwickshire Bears for the 2026 Vitality Blast, and both Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq being picked in The Hundred 2026 draft, underscoring that franchises still value their skills, despite the decline in numbers. However, the comparison between their PSL 2025 and PSL 2026 performances has sparked debate among fans and analysts, with many questioning whether the decline is merely a dip in form or a sign that batters have become more adept at reading their mystery spin.
