Hyderabad Kingsmen skipper Marnus Labuschagne was at a loss for words after his team pulled off a stunning two-run victory over Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) Eliminator 2 at Gaddafi Stadium. Despite a lackluster start to their inaugural PSL season, where they suffered four consecutive losses, the Kingsmen staged an incredible turnaround by winning seven out of their next eight matches to secure a spot in the final. Batting first, the Kingsmen posted a respectable 186-5 in 20 overs, with a pivotal 101-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Usman Khan and Kusal Perera serving as the backbone of their innings. The duo’s impressive display helped the team recover from a precarious 85-4 in 11.2 overs, with Usman Khan leading the charge with an unbeaten 61 off 30 deliveries, including 10 boundaries. His outstanding performance helped the Kingsmen post a competitive total on a pitch that was described as slightly uneven. In response, Islamabad United came agonizingly close to snatching victory, requiring just six runs in the final over. However, young pacer Hunain Shah delivered a masterful final over, conceding only three runs and taking a crucial wicket to seal a heart-stopping two-run victory for the Kingsmen. Speaking after the match, Labuschagne, who contributed 39 runs, expressed his astonishment at the team’s performance. “I’m struggling to find the right words to describe what we’ve achieved today. This team has undoubtedly been a source of entertainment throughout the tournament,” he said. Labuschagne highlighted the match’s numerous turning points, with momentum shifting several times. “It seemed like we were cruising to victory, only to have it slip through our fingers, and then Hunain Shah’s exceptional final over turned the tables. I’m still trying to process what we’ve just accomplished,” he said. Labuschagne also praised the team’s ownership and management, acknowledging the trust they had placed in the players throughout the tournament. “The ownership’s faith in us, the way each player was selected for a reason, and the contributions made by every individual have been instrumental in our success,” he said. He specifically commended Usman Khan for his match-winning performance, which marked a significant turnaround from his earlier struggles in the tournament. “Usman had a slow start to the season, but he’s now found his rhythm. His outstanding innings on a challenging pitch was a testament to his growth as a player,” Labuschagne said. He also lauded the bowling unit for consistently delivering under pressure. “The bowlers have been phenomenal, particularly in the powerplay. Hunain Shah’s final over was a masterclass. Even though he had an expensive over earlier, I felt that moment was building towards something special,” he added. Labuschagne explained that having only four fielders outside the circle in the final over simplified their strategy. “It made things straightforward, keeping everyone focused on bowling yorkers,” he said. With this dramatic win, the Hyderabad Kingsmen will now head into the PSL 11 final with renewed momentum, where they will face table-toppers Peshawar Zalmi on Sunday.
