Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan acknowledged that Hyderabad Kingsmen was the more deserving finalist after his team’s narrow two-run defeat in Eliminator 2 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) at Gaddafi Stadium. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Shadab expressed his team’s disappointment at missing out on the final, but also praised Hyderabad Kingsmen for their superior performance. The Kingsmen’s batting lineup posted an impressive 186-5 in 20 overs, staging a remarkable recovery from 85-4 in 11.2 overs. A pivotal 101-run partnership between Usman Khan and Kusal Perera was instrumental in their turnaround, with Usman contributing an unbeaten 61 off just 30 deliveries, including 10 boundaries. In response, Islamabad United managed 184-7 in their allotted 20 overs, falling agonizingly short of the target despite a collective batting effort. Shadab pointed to his team’s struggles in the death overs, noting that they conceded around 10 to 15 extra runs, which ultimately proved costly. He also highlighted the importance of better decision-making, stating that losing wickets at key moments and failing to capitalize on momentum were critical factors in their defeat. The dismissal of set batter Faheem Ashraf in the final over was a turning point, as Islamabad United ultimately fell two runs short of their target. Shadab praised emerging opener Sameer Minhas, who scored 349 runs in 11 innings at an average of 38.77, including three half-centuries, describing him as an “exceptional talent.” He also credited his team’s spin trio, including himself, Imad Wasim, and Chris Green, for their impressive performances throughout the tournament.
