Gilgit Announces Jail Sentences for Parents of Child Beggars

Gilgit (Staff Reporter) – Under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Gilgit Captain (Retd.) Adel Ali, a major crackdown was carried out in the city against children who beg from surrounding areas. During the operation, children spotted begging late at night in markets and various hotels were taken into custody and transferred to the tehsil office. The Assistant Commissioner summoned their parents and instructed them to provide a written pledge to stop their children from begging. The operation was overseen by the focal person for the Gibrs Building, Inspector Merjmlah Khan, who collected minor beggars from several hotels and market zones. The aim is to eliminate child begging from Gilgit and hold parents accountable for preventing it. Assistant Commissioner Adel Ali warned parents that any repeat attempt by their children to beg will result in jail time for both the children and their guardians. He emphasized that the district administration is committed to making Gilgit free of beggars and appealed for public cooperation.
