ECGB Rejects Fake Disqualification Notice Against Nagar-II Candidate Riaz Akbar

NAGAR: The Election Commission Gilgit-Baltistan (ECGB) has dismissed as fake a notification circulating on social media that falsely claimed the disqualification of Nagar-II candidate Riaz Akbar, who is jointly backed by Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

According to Bahadur Jameel, Media Coordinator of the Election Commission Gilgit-Baltistan, the document being shared online is fabricated and was never issued by the Election Commission.

The ECGB urged voters, political workers, and media organizations to verify election-related information through official Election Commission channels and refrain from sharing unverified content, especially on polling day when misinformation can influence public opinion.

The clarification comes after the fake notification gained significant traction on social media, creating confusion among voters in Nagar-II while polling for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Elections 2026 is underway.

Election officials emphasized that only information released through official ECGB platforms should be considered authentic and advised the public to remain vigilant against misleading election-related content.
