Joint Measures Required to Combat Epidemic Diseases – K IU Workshop

A four‑day workshop titled “Integrated Research Training on Vector‑Borne Diseases in Pakistan: Vector Biology, Virology and Disease Control,” organized by Karakoram International University (KIU) in collaboration with Aga Khan University Hospital Karachi, concluded successfully in Gilgit (Gilgit‑Baltistan). According to KIU’s Public Relations Department, national and regional health experts engaged in in‑depth scientific and research discussions on modern approaches to tackle infectious diseases, especially vector‑borne illnesses such as dengue, malaria, and chikungunya. Participants were introduced to vector biology, virology, epidemiology and advanced research techniques. Throughout the sessions, specialists presented analysis based on their research and offered practical recommendations. The closing ceremony was attended by senior administrative and academic officers of KIU, faculty members, officials from the Gilgit‑Baltistan Health Department, Livestock and Dairy Development Department, Agriculture Department, as well as a large number of students. Speakers described the workshop as highly valuable for strengthening regional capacity to combat epidemic diseases and emphasized that sustained, joint collaboration among universities, government agencies and health experts is essential to eradicate these illnesses. They expressed hope that the knowledge and skills gained will be applied in the field, leading to significant improvements in controlling infectious diseases across Gilgit‑Baltistan and the whole of Pakistan. Moreover, they noted that the workshop not only provided a major academic opportunity for students but also marked an important milestone in the regional fight against epidemic diseases.
