Karachi Announces Special Discount for Shipments to Gulf Countries

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Janid Anwar announced a special discount for exporters of delayed shipments bound for Gulf countries. According to Anwar, storage charges at KPT terminals will be reduced by 25‑50%, giving exporters of Gulf‑bound delayed shipments a significant concession. He added that relief will also apply to containers stuck at ports, easing financial pressure and supporting exports while ongoing measures aim to resolve logistics challenges and improve cargo clearance. A Pakistani vessel carrying crude oil arrived at Karachi Port via the Strait of Hormuz. Karachi’s largest port was closed for several hours, and a collision between two ships at the port caused 21 containers to fall into the sea. Anwar also stated that storage charges at KGTL will be waived at 50% from March 1 to March 20, a 50% discount will apply at KICT from March 1 to March 10, and a 25% reduction will be implemented at SAPT from March 11 to March 31. The minister praised KPT Chairman Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed for his efforts and emphasized the need to align the port system with commercial requirements.
