US Lawmaker Criticizes Israel’s ‘Blank Check’ Amid Allegations of Systemic Racism

Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen has added his voice to the chorus of criticism targeting Israel’s recently enacted death penalty law, which would impose capital punishment on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank but exempt Jewish Israelis from the same fate.
In a scathing social media post, Van Hollen condemned the Netanyahu administration for its decision to implement a law that discriminates against Palestinians while sparing Israeli settlers who commit identical crimes.
Van Hollen questioned the rationale behind the US government’s annual provision of billions of dollars in military aid to Israel, given the country’s pursuit of policies he describes as “blatantly racist.”
The US has committed to providing Israel with significant military assistance, with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announcing an additional $4 billion in emergency funding in March.
