Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has revealed plans to introduce new venues for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in the upcoming year, marking a significant expansion of the tournament. In a media briefing, Mohsin Naqvi expressed gratitude to the people of Lahore and commended the cricket enthusiasts for their exemplary behavior and fervor during the final match. He highlighted the electrifying atmosphere at Gaddafi Stadium, where fans displayed unwavering passion and energy. Naqvi was particularly impressed by the residents of Lahore, who demonstrated an unrelenting love for the sport. He noted that fans showed equal enthusiasm for both teams, thoroughly enjoying the match and showcasing their deep affinity for cricket. This announcement comes on the heels of the PSL 11 final, where a full crowd was allowed to attend following a special exemption granted by the government, despite initial restrictions imposed due to fuel-saving measures. Earlier in the tournament, matches were confined to only two cities, Lahore and Karachi, and were initially played behind closed doors due to a nationwide fuel shortage triggered by global energy disruptions. Naqvi explained that securing permission for crowds was a challenging task, as the Prime Minister of Pakistan had initially sought to minimize fuel consumption. However, the Prime Minister ultimately approved attendance for the final, reflecting his personal interest in allowing spectators. The PCB chairman emphasized that PSL 12 will be a more extensive and engaging edition than the current one. This statement aligns with the PCB’s broader vision to grow the league, which has already witnessed an increase in teams from six to eight and aims to enhance its global reputation.
