Babar Azam Secures PSL 11 Championship Title, Writes New Chapter in His Career

Peshawar Zalmi’s skipper Babar Azam has etched his name in the annals of Pakistan Super League history by claiming the coveted PSL title. Having initially taken the reins with Karachi Kings in 2022, Babar has now achieved his maiden championship victory as captain, guiding Peshawar Zalmi to their second PSL crown. This triumph marked the end of a nine-year drought for Zalmi, who last tasted victory in 2017 under the leadership of West Indies legend Darren Sammy. With this achievement, Babar has become only the second Zalmi captain to claim a PSL title and the ninth overall to do so, joining an elite group that includes names like Sarfaraz Ahmed and Misbah-ul-Haq. Meanwhile, Shaheen Shah Afridi remains at the top of the list with three PSL titles as captain. Peshawar Zalmi secured their victory over Hyderabad Kingsmen by five wickets in an electrifying final at Gaddafi Stadium. After winning the toss, Babar opted to field first, a decision that paid off handsomely. Despite a valiant half-century from Saim Ayub, who scored 54 runs off 50 balls with five fours and two sixes, the Kingsmen were bowled out for a modest 129 in 18 overs. In response, Peshawar Zalmi chased down the 130-run target with five wickets lost and 28 balls remaining, thanks to an 85-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Aaron Hardie and Abdul Samad. The pair stabilized the innings after Zalmi were struggling at 40-4. Samad scored 48 off 34 balls before being dismissed, while Hardie remained unbeaten with 56 off 39 deliveries, hitting nine boundaries.
