Pakistan Super League (PSL) history was rewritten by Peshawar Zalmi’s ace spinner Sufiyan Muqeem, who achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the first bowler to claim three or more wickets in five consecutive matches. The left-arm spinner’s exceptional display continued as he picked up 3 wickets for 25 runs in four overs against Quetta Gladiators at the National Bank Stadium, dismissing Rilee Rossouw, Hasan Nawaz, and Khawaja Nafay in the process. With this latest achievement, Sufiyan Muqeem has now taken at least three wickets in every match he has played for Peshawar Zalmi in this season, excluding the washed-out game against Islamabad United in Lahore. His outstanding performance has also propelled him to the top of the PSL 11 wicket-takers’ list, with 16 wickets in just six matches. In the 23rd match of the tournament, Peshawar Zalmi’s strong bowling display restricted Quetta Gladiators to a subpar total. Quetta’s innings got off to a poor start with Ahsan Ali being dismissed for 4 in the opening over. Captain Saud Shakeel attempted to stabilize the innings, adding 35 runs with Rilee Rossouw before being run out after scoring 16 off 13 deliveries. Rossouw looked threatening during his 28 off 16 deliveries, striking four boundaries, but Muqeem provided the breakthrough when Quetta seemed to be gaining momentum. He struck again in the 12th over to remove Shamyl Hussain after his brief 12-run stay and continued to disrupt Quetta’s middle order as the innings faltered. Hasan Nawaz was Quetta’s top scorer with 37 off 35 balls, including four fours, while Khawaja Nafay made 20 off 13. However, both fell as Quetta failed to convert partnerships into a commanding total. Peshawar’s bowlers maintained the pressure in the final overs, running through the lower order and leaving Quetta with little room for a late recovery. Tom Curran’s 15 off 10 deliveries offered some resistance, but it was not enough to lift the innings. While Abdul Basit also claimed three wickets, Muqeem stood out due to his control and ability to strike at crucial moments.
