Gilgit (P.R.) – Karakoram International University has distributed laptops to 450 meritorious students under the Prime Minister Laptop Scheme. According to the university’s Public Relations Department, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Akhtar, attended the laptop distribution ceremony as the chief guest. He was accompanied by IU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Attaullah Shah and other officials. Together, the HEC Chairman and the IU Vice Chancellor handed out laptops to the selected students under the Prime Minister Laptop Scheme. In his address, Dr. Akhtar praised the exemplary training of Gilgit‑Baltistan students and urged them to maintain ethical traditions in higher education and research. He encouraged students to develop skills in modern technology, noting that the laptop scheme is a vital link helping them achieve a prominent position in the tech world. He emphasized that a laptop is more than an electronic device—it is a ladder to progress and success, and the scheme aims to secure a leading role for our students in the digital arena. Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Attaullah Shah highlighted ongoing initiatives led by the HEC Chairman to promote higher education and student welfare. He stated that Karakoram International University is continuously advancing in academic and research fields and will soon be recognized internationally as a model institution. He added that the HEC Chairman’s visit marks a significant milestone for the university. The laptop distribution sparked visible excitement among the students. Both the HEC Chairman and the IU Vice Chancellor urged the recipients to use the devices wisely, master modern technology, and establish a distinguished presence in the digital world.
