To ensure access to education in remote areas and effective use of technology, every individual and institution must play a role. Former IT Minister Suthra Zaman briefed the Open University’s circle on free education and modern facilities, confirming full support for the upcoming admission drive.
Gilgit (Staff Reporter) – Former Gilgit‑Baltistan IT Minister Suthra Zaman visited the regional office of Allama Iqbal Open University, where she received a detailed briefing on the university’s academic activities, ongoing programs, and student services. Regional Director Iqbal Shahzad informed her that the university offers free education up to the matric level, while maintaining high standards across BS to PhD programs. He added that scholarships and free education are also provided to needy students, meritorious youth, children of martyrs, and special individuals. Modern technology and online facilities are being used to extend education to distant regions.
Ms. Zaman praised these services and pledged complete cooperation for the Fall 2026 admission campaign. She emphasized the urgent need for women’s education in the under‑developed areas of Diamir district, stating that extending the free education system to the grassroots and popularizing home schooling are essential. According to her, societal progress depends on women’s education, and all resources will be mobilized for this goal. The former IT minister reaffirmed her commitment to collaborate with Allama Iqbal Open University to create educational opportunities in remote locations. She announced that an effective awareness campaign will run during the admission drive in Diamir and other areas, ensuring that no student—especially female students—misses out on higher education and that as many people as possible benefit from this educational network.
