EU Unanimously Denounces Israel’s Unlawful Settlement Expansion Plans

The European Union has unequivocally denounced the Israeli government’s plans to construct 30 new settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, citing a July ruling by the International Court of Justice that unequivocally declared such actions as unlawful under international law.
According to the European External Action Service, the relentless expansion of these settlements poses a significant threat to the prospects of a lasting peace and the long-standing two-state solution, which has been a cornerstone of the EU’s diplomatic efforts.
In a statement, the EU called upon the Israeli government to rescind its decisions and adhere to its international obligations, while also emphasizing the need to safeguard the well-being of the Palestinian population residing in the occupied territories.
The EU reaffirmed its commitment to a comprehensive, equitable, and enduring peace that is grounded in the two-state solution, as outlined in relevant UN Security Council resolutions, where Israel and Palestine can coexist peacefully within secure and recognized borders.
Notably, despite its vocal concerns regarding Israel’s actions in occupied Palestine, the European Union and its member states have continued to provide financial and other forms of support to the Israeli government.
