Reports indicate that the vital link between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, the King Fahad Causeway, has been shut down indefinitely due to concerns about potential Iranian attacks.
According to a recent post on X by the authority overseeing the causeway, traffic has been halted as a precautionary measure in response to Iranian strikes targeting Saudi Arabia’s Eastern province. The 25km-long causeway serves as the sole road connecting Saudi Arabia to the island nation of Bahrain.
This development comes as a backdrop to escalating tensions in the region, with Trump’s warning to Iran that it will face severe consequences if it fails to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday. Iran has, in turn, vowed to unleash devastating retaliation if its civilian infrastructure is targeted.
The Gulf region has borne the brunt of Iran’s retaliatory strikes since the US and Israel launched their military campaign against the country. In light of recent alerts issued by the National Early Warning Platform in the Eastern region, the movement of vehicles across the King Fahd bridge has been suspended as a precautionary measure.
