Lebanon Blast Injures Three UN Peacekeepers, Third Incident in a Week

A recent explosion at a UN position in Lebanon has left three peacekeepers injured, marking the third such incident in a week, according to the United Nations force in the country. The blast occurred in the afternoon, causing serious injuries to two of the peacekeepers, who are currently undergoing medical evacuation to a hospital. The cause of the explosion remains unknown, according to UNIFIL spokesperson Kandice Ardiel, who released a statement detailing the incident.

Just two days prior to this latest incident, an Indonesian peacekeeper lost their life when a projectile detonated inside a UN position. A second blast the following day resulted in the deaths of two more Indonesian troops. Since its inception in 1978, the UN force in Lebanon has suffered significant losses, with 97 members killed in violence while monitoring the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the country. The UNIFIL mandate is set to expire at the end of this year.
