The Nikkei stock market average took a sharp downturn, relinquishing earlier advances, as investors were left uncertain by Trump’s lack of clarity regarding the Iran conflict’s resolution.
The Nikkei plummeted 1.6 percent to 52,867 by 02:16 GMT, after having surged as high as 0.97 percent earlier in the trading session, according to a report from the Reuters news agency.
Concurrently, the broader Topix index also surrendered its gains, plummeting 0.98 percent to 3,635.18.
The market had experienced a significant rally this week, buoyed by optimism for a de-escalation of the conflict, following a dismal March that saw the Nikkei log its worst month since the 2008 global financial crisis.
