Amir of Pakistan’s Jamaat‑e‑Islami, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, declared that rulers should take loans and give the money back to the people, calling the practice an injustice. Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, he criticized the state of University Road, saying it has become a joke and that no major projects are being completed in the city. He warned that the Pakistan Peoples Party is also forming a team of senior citizens and urged the elders not to support them. Naeem urged the mayor to “give Karachi its rights,” noting that the city suffers while Jamaat‑e‑Islami works on systemic change and will move a no‑confidence motion against the Karachi mayor. The party has launched a nationwide membership drive starting 25 April. He added that the country will not improve as long as the current system remains, reiterating that taking loans from the public is a grave injustice. He called for a court notice on petroleum levy issues and announced that Jamaat‑e‑Islami will challenge the levies in court. Naeem accused IPPs of illegal contracts that drain public funds without generating electricity, claiming that ministers and advisors negotiate for personal gain rather than national interest. He said no similar deals exist worldwide, yet the ruling elite’s agreements are harming the public. He highlighted that millions of children are out of school, a chief minister with a 15‑billion‑rupee aircraft is outsourcing schools, and even a $100 million inflow would be consumed by the elite. Regarding the Middle East, Naeem praised negotiation attempts between Iran and the United States but criticized the U.S. stance, noting that Israel and the U.S. have targeted Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and schools, and that Israel continues to strike civilians in Gaza despite a ceasefire, with attacks also launched on Lebanon. He argued that negotiating with Iran does not mean Iran is powerless; rather, U.S. policies are damaging its own structure, and any U.S. negotiations are forced by widespread European opposition. He mentioned costly Gulf bases that have become redundant. Naeem said the U.S. has previously deceived under the guise of talks, congratulated Iran’s leadership for its bravery, and asserted that the U.S. is not negotiating out of humanitarian concern but out of self‑preservation. He claimed that Gaza and Iran have reduced U.S. power, leaving America isolated globally, and that Iran will not negotiate on the Strait of Hormuz while under U.S. pressure. He affirmed Pakistan’s support for Iran and emphasized Pakistan’s crucial role in any negotiations, suggesting that Turkey and Iran be included in the Pakistan‑Saudi Arabia defense pact.
