President Asif Ali Zardari presented top military decorations to Pakistan Army, Air Force and Navy officers and personnel at a prestigious award‑distribution ceremony held in the President’s House, Islamabad, recognizing national service, exceptional bravery and sacrifice. Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Ali, posthumously awarded the Star of Bravery for his courageous anti‑Khawarij operation and supreme sacrifice, led two action teams on the night of 4‑5 October 2024 after receiving intelligence on suspected terrorists. During the return, the terrorists opened fire, wounding him severely; he maintained a defensive position, led his troops, and was killed after three bullets struck him. His dedication was hailed as a shining example of loyalty, courage and resolve. Soldier Israr Muhammad also received the Star of Bravery for extraordinary bravery while serving as security guard for the Pakistani ambassador in Afghanistan; on 2 December 2022 he shielded the ambassador during a sniper attack outside the Kabul embassy, sustaining serious injuries but continuing to move the ambassador to safety under fire. His valor was highly praised. Air Marshal Kashif Qamar was awarded the Military Distinguished Service Medal for unparalleled performance, while Air Marshal Amir Shahzad, Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Amir Hayat, Major General Muhammad Shahid Abro, Major General Subtain Rafiq, Rear Admiral Mazhar Mahmood Malik, Air Admiral Rizwan Sadiq, Major General Muhammad Maqbool Raza, Air Vice Marshal Shahid Mansoor Jahangiri, Air Vice Marshal Khalid Mahmood, Major General Ijaz Ahmed, Major General Malik Muhammad Shahzad, Major General Amir Ashfaq Kiani, and Air Vice Marshal Tahir Mahmood also received the Military Distinguished Service Medal for distinguished service. The ceremony concluded with a tribute to the martyrs and a reaffirmation that Pakistan’s armed forces remain ready to make any sacrifice for the nation’s security and defense.
