Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif chaired a review meeting on housing sector reforms, stating that reforms are an urgent necessity given the rising population. He said providing housing for low‑income groups, launching affordable‑home schemes and encouraging private‑sector participation, as well as improving public amenities, are among the priorities. Sharif noted that population growth and unplanned urban sprawl are increasing pressure on agricultural land, requiring a proper strategy. He announced that all housing‑sector processes will be digitized and automated to promote transparency. He added that attracting foreign investors to the housing sector will require bringing the sector under a regulatory framework. The meeting presented proposals for housing reforms and briefed participants on a regulatory framework that will facilitate facilities for reputable investors and developers. It was explained that registration with the SECP should be mandatory for those working in housing and development, and a strategy will be devised to curb haphazard city expansion. The briefing also mentioned encouraging high‑rise buildings and vertical expansion in major cities, proposing master‑town planning for large urban areas, and establishing a “one‑window” system to protect the rights of developers, buyers and other stakeholders. The Prime Minister instructed consultation with provinces on the proposals. Attendees included Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahed Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Housing and Works Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Mohsin Naqvi, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar, Prime Minister’s Inter‑Provincial Relations Advisor Rana Sanaullah, Provincial Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Provincial Minister for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kiani, NAB Chairman Lieutenant General (Retired) Nazir Ahmed Butt, Attorney General Mansoor Awan and other senior officials.
