Hyderabad Kingsmen Secure Knockout Berth with Thrilling Eight-Wicket Win Over Multan Sultans

The Hyderabad Kingsmen have secured a spot in the next knockout clash against Islamabad United in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) after a resounding eight-wicket victory over Multan Sultans in Eliminator 1 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. In a high-stakes contest, the Kingsmen chased down a target of 160 with ease, crossing the finish line with 28 balls to spare. The win not only brought an end to Multan’s campaign but also propelled the tournament’s new entrants into Eliminator 2, where the final spot will be up for grabs. Hyderabad’s chase was initially marred by the early loss of captain Marnus Labuschagne, who fell for 11 runs with just 18 runs on the board. However, the setback proved to be a mere blip on the radar as Usman Khan and Maaz Sadaqat took control of the chase with a scintillating 92-run partnership for the second wicket. Khan’s aggressive approach, which saw him hammer 64 off 35 balls with eight fours and three sixes, was matched by Sadaqat’s destructive batting at the other end. Sadaqat remained unbeaten on 64 off 33 deliveries, smashing four fours and four sixes, before being joined by Saim Ayub, who added an unbeaten 15 to seal the win in the 16th over. Earlier, Multan Sultans struggled to gain momentum after being asked to bat. Steve Smith’s early dismissal for 13 runs in the third over set the tone for the rest of the innings, which never fully recovered from the setback. Sahibzada Farhan, Josh Philippe, Ashton Turner, and Arafat Minhas all departed without making significant contributions as Multan slipped into trouble early. Shan Masood was the lone bright spot for the Sultans, holding the innings together with an unbeaten 69 off 46 balls, hitting four fours and four sixes, while Mohammad Nawaz chipped in with 19. Despite these efforts, Multan could only manage 159/9 in their 20 overs. Hyderabad’s bowling unit delivered a collective performance, with Mohammad Ali, Hunain Shah, and Akif Javed claiming two wickets each. Glenn Maxwell and Saim Ayub also picked up one wicket apiece to keep Multan under pressure throughout the innings. Having squeezed into the playoffs, the Hyderabad Kingsmen have now taken a significant step forward and will head into Eliminator 2 with momentum firmly on their side.
