In a landmark move, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has bestowed the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with complete administrative and financial independence, following a unanimous decision at the 84th meeting of the PCB Board of Governors in Lahore. The meeting, presided over by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, marked a pivotal shift in the governance of the PSL, which has been directly managed by the PCB since its inception in 2016. The decision comes after a protracted period of discussions regarding the league’s financial framework and governance. Although the PCB has granted autonomy to the PSL, it has yet to release the audited financial reports for the league’s last two seasons. The Board also approved the budget for the 12th edition of the PSL and cleared the surplus budget for the 2026-27 financial year, although the complete financial details of the new budget remain undisclosed. PCB Chief Financial Officer Javed Murtaza presented a comprehensive overview of the board’s financial standing and budgetary allocations for the upcoming fiscal year during the meeting. In another significant development, the PCB increased the domestic cricket budget by Rs. 1 billion, elevating the allocation from Rs. 3 billion to Rs. 4 billion. Furthermore, the Board approved substantial increases in player compensation, with match fees for Quaid-e-Azam Trophy participants more than tripling from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 100,000 per match. Reserve players will now receive Rs. 50,000, up from the previous amount of Rs. 15,000.
