PCB to Explore Reviving Stadium Atmosphere for PSL 11

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has announced plans to once more seek permission from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to allow spectators to attend Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) matches. In a media briefing in Karachi, Naqvi stated that the board is actively working towards bringing fans back to stadiums, with the intention of re-raising the matter with the prime minister. He emphasized that any decision will be made with consideration for the ongoing global situation, which is currently influenced by the Middle East conflict. This comes after the PCB recently announced that PSL matches would be held without spectators as part of the government’s austerity measures introduced in response to the regional crisis. At the time, Naqvi confirmed that the tournament would be confined to two venues, Karachi and Lahore, in an effort to minimize public movement. The decision was in line with broader government measures aimed at addressing the global fuel crisis through cost-saving strategies. Several franchise owners have called for the return of spectators, highlighting the importance of fan presence in creating the league’s atmosphere and identity. They have appealed to both the prime minister and provincial authorities to allow crowds during the ongoing edition. Naqvi also commended law enforcement agencies for ensuring the smooth conduct of the PSL despite the current challenges. While expressing his intention to push for spectators’ return, he ruled out any changes to the tournament schedule. He further stated that franchises will receive gate revenue, with the PCB covering related expenses. Additionally, Naqvi revealed that plans are being considered to review and potentially rebuild the National Bank Cricket Arena to enhance facilities.
