In a heartwarming account shared on the Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) official Instagram page, the father of cricketers Arafat Minhas and Sameer Minhas has opened up about the journey that led his sons to the pinnacle of success in the ongoing PSL 11. The father revealed that his sons’ passion for cricket began at home, where they would play with a plastic egg, a makeshift cricket set. As they progressed, he noticed significant improvement in their skills, particularly their ability to gauge the ball and execute precise shots, which convinced him that they possessed a natural talent for the sport. He then took them to the cricket ground, initiated formal training, and enrolled them in a reputable cricket club. To further hone their skills, he arranged coaching sessions with Tahir Mahmood Faiz, a PCB Level Two coach, who played a pivotal role in helping the brothers reach the professional level. The fruits of their labor are now visible in PSL 2026, with Sameer Minhas, representing Islamabad United, emerging as one of the standout young performers. He has amassed over 200 runs in five matches, including multiple half-centuries, solidifying his position among the leading run-scorers this season. Earlier in the tournament, he made a lasting impression with 180 runs in his first three innings, boasting an impressive average of 90, which highlights his consistency and impact. His exceptional performances have swiftly established him as one of the most promising young batters in the league. Meanwhile, Arafat Minhas has been instrumental in Multan Sultans’ success, showcasing his all-round skills. Batting in the lower order, he has scored over 80 runs with a strike rate exceeding 180, demonstrating his ability to accelerate in high-pressure situations. In addition to his batting prowess, he has contributed significantly with the ball, taking crucial wickets and maintaining control in the middle overs. His role as a finisher has added balance to his team. When asked about the challenges they faced, their father candidly shared that managing business responsibilities alongside cricket commitments was a daunting task. He often traveled long distances, sometimes up to 200 kilometers from Multan, to attend their matches. He also credited his wife for her unwavering support, as both parents spent countless hours at the grounds watching matches and accompanying their sons during regional selections. Describing their personalities, he noted that Arafat was more mischievous, while Sameer remained calm and composed. He maintained a rigorous routine for their education, diet, and training to prepare them for long-term cricket careers. The father expressed hope that both brothers will represent Pakistan at the international level and that their performances will rekindle fans’ interest in the sport, leading to a resurgence in attendance at stadiums.
