Rawalpindiz all-rounder Saad Masood has shared candid insights into his cricketing journey, including his Pakistan debut and ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) campaign, in an exclusive interview. Having recently earned his Pakistan cap, Masood described the experience as a lifelong aspiration. “It was a defining moment for me, my family, and everyone involved,” he recalled, reflecting on the path that led to his international debut. Although his first outing did not go as planned, Masood’s 38 off 44 deliveries in the ODI against Bangladesh and a crucial 79-run partnership with Agha Salman showcased his potential. However, a pivotal moment proved costly as he was bowled attempting an aggressive shot against Mustafizur Rahman, halting the team’s momentum. The side ultimately fell short by 11 runs, losing the series 2-1. In hindsight, Masood acknowledged that his decision was misguided, which contributed to the team’s loss. The experience, though, also exposed him to the demands of international cricket, particularly during his encounter with Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana. “Facing Nahid Rana was a significant step up from what I was accustomed to in domestic cricket,” Masood said, describing it as a stark contrast to the pacers he had previously faced. Shifting focus to his current campaign, Masood discussed his role with Rawalpindiz in PSL 11, where he is currently playing. He credited the team environment, particularly the presence of experienced figures like captain Mohammad Rizwan and bowling coach Courtney Walsh, with playing a pivotal role in his development. “It’s a privilege to share the dressing room with so many legends,” Masood said, highlighting Rizwan’s leadership as a key factor in maintaining a positive and focused atmosphere within the squad. “He’s someone who stays away from negativity, and his personality is a major asset.” Discussing the team’s approach, Masood emphasized the importance of consistency in T20 cricket. “In T20 cricket, you can’t predict outcomes; it’s all about putting in the effort,” he said, noting that Rawalpindiz’s strong start to the tournament reflects the team’s overall balance. He also expressed his appreciation for the local supporters, acknowledging the absence of crowds and hoping to reconnect with fans as the season progresses.
