Hyderabad Kingsmen captain Marnus Labuschagne has come out in strong support of Saim Ayub, citing the all-rounder’s growth and value to the team following their resounding eight-wicket win over Multan Sultans in Eliminator 1 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 11). During the post-match presentation, Labuschagne highlighted Saim Ayub’s maturity, describing him as a player capable of adapting to various situations on the field. The skipper emphasized the importance of Saim Ayub trusting his abilities, stating that his skills will eventually pay off. “Saim has evolved from an inexperienced player to a seasoned one who can excel in multiple facets of the game,” Labuschagne noted. “I’ve encouraged him to stay confident in his abilities, as it’s bound to click.” Labuschagne attributed dips in performance to a loss of confidence rather than a lack of skill, using Usman Khan’s experience as an example. He pointed out that Khan struggled for eight matches before delivering a match-winning performance. “In a tournament like this, players don’t lose their ability, they lose their confidence,” Labuschagne said. “If Saim leads us to victory in the final, no one will remember his earlier struggles. That’s what great teams do.” Saim Ayub’s campaign in PSL 11 has been marked by inconsistency, with the left-hander scoring 166 runs in 11 innings at an average of 16.60 and a strike rate of over 119.42. Reflecting on the match, Labuschagne credited the team’s preparation and new strategies for their success. He also highlighted the importance of managing expectations following their previous defeat to Islamabad United. The Kingsmen delivered a strong all-round performance, restricting Multan to 159 in 20 overs before chasing down the 160-run target with ease, losing just two wickets and finishing with 28 balls remaining. Usman Khan and Maaz Sadaqat led the chase with composed half-centuries, marking a remarkable turnaround for a side that had lost its first four matches of the tournament. With the victory, Kingsmen advanced to Eliminator 2, where they will face Islamabad United on May 1 at the same venue.
