Lahore Qalandars’ Title Defense Crumbles Against Quetta Gladiators in PSL 11

In a resounding victory, Quetta Gladiators asserted their dominance over defending champions Lahore Qalandars, securing a six-wicket win in the 26th match of PSL 11 at the National Bank Stadium on Friday. With a target of 135 to chase, Quetta overcame an early setback to reach the target with 22 balls to spare. The Gladiators’ top order faltered, with Shamyl Hussain being dismissed without a run and Saud Shakeel managing just one, leaving the team at 11-2 in the first three overs. However, Rilee Rossouw and Mohammad Nawaz formed an unbreakable partnership, turning the match around with a remarkable 104-run stand for the third wicket. Nawaz narrowly missed a half-century, scoring 49 from 32 deliveries and hitting six fours and two sixes. Dinesh Chandimal’s dismissal soon after failed to halt Rossouw’s momentum, who remained unbeaten on 60 off 49 balls, striking five fours and two sixes. Bevon Jacobs contributed a quick 14 not out from six deliveries at the end. Earlier, Lahore’s decision to bat first backfired as they were bowled out for 134 in 19.5 overs. The early loss of Mohammad Naeem and Fakhar Zaman inside the first three overs, coupled with Charith Asalanka’s struggles, put Lahore in a precarious position. Mohammad Farooq’s dismissal for two further exacerbated their troubles. Abdullah Shafique and Haseebullah Khan attempted to rebuild, but Quetta’s bowlers consistently picked up wickets. Abdullah fell for 17, while Lahore captain Shaheen Shah Afridi was dismissed for a duck in the same over. With the innings in disarray at 60-6, Haseebullah and Sikandar Raza managed to add some resistance, but their recovery never gained significant momentum. Raza was dismissed after making a valuable contribution, while Haseebullah top-scored with 33 off 37 deliveries. Daniel Sams added a few runs late on, and Usama Mir provided a glimmer of hope with a rapid 22 off just seven balls, including three sixes and a four, but the total still appeared below par. Quetta’s bowling effort was spearheaded by Usman Tariq and Jahandad Khan, who claimed three wickets each. Alzarri Joseph picked up two, while Saqib Khan contributed one.
