Skardu (Bureau Chief) – Relatives and public groups are intensifying demands for the reinstatement of the 110 dismissed police officers in Gilgit‑Baltistan. According to the families, the recent minor protest and the tragic incident that led to the dismissals constitute a grave injustice, and they have urged the government to restore the officers immediately so that their dignity can be recovered and their financial difficulties resolved. In a statement to the media, the relatives said, “These police officers are also part of society; their votes and self‑respect deserve the same respect as any other citizen’s.” They emphasized that the economic condition of the 110 police families in Gilgit‑Baltistan has deteriorated sharply, and they are confronting a severe shortage of employment. “This is an economic killing of 110 police households, and we request swift reinstatement measures,” they added.
The relatives also complained that, during the election preparations in Gilgit‑Baltistan, public representatives are deceiving voters for their own political interests while ignoring the dismissed officers. They declared, “We will only consider voting for any public representative if our loved ones are reinstated. If these officers are not restored, we will withhold our votes from every candidate on behalf of our relatives and their families.”
Furthermore, they demanded an equitable distribution of the police force across all three regions of Gilgit‑Baltistan to ensure stable police presence and better services for the public. They also called for the establishment of active and stable reserve police centers in each region to increase the number of police personnel and strengthen public safety.
Finally, they urged that dismissals within the police force should not be based on a few individuals but should respect the rights of all employees and ensure justice for every staff member.
