Prime Minister Launches “Apna Ghar” Scheme, Announces Major Benefits in Budget

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif officially launched the “Apna Ghar” scheme, distributing bank checks to eligible loan applicants. Under the scheme, loans of up to one crore rupees are offered on easy terms across all four provinces, Gilgit‑Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. The Prime Minister congratulated successful candidates who secured loans, calling the event a source of pride and emphasizing that providing roofs is a sacred duty. He pledged to bring significant measures in the budget and stressed that housing for ordinary citizens is a top priority for the state. The first target is loans for 50,000 homes, with financing of Rs 321 billion allocated to the program. The five‑year goal is to support 500,000 homes, and extensive effort has been made to ensure success. He noted that the scheme was launched after consultations with senior government officials and the private sector, and even driver Ghulam Hussain received a loan to build his house at the event. The initiative will enable construction of homes on plots as small as 10 marla, and the Prime Minister will conduct monthly self‑assessments of implementation. He added that the construction sector drives the economy, that participating banks will receive medals on August 14, and that the government is encouraging exporters, appointing distinguished exporters as honorary ambassadors and granting them two‑year blue passports.
