Poverty and Unemployment May Rise, State Bank Warns

Islamabad – The Monetary Policy Committee of the State Bank of Pakistan warned that the national economy could head toward a possible stagflation scenario, where GDP growth slows while inflation remains high. This combination of sluggish economic growth and rising price pressures could increase poverty and unemployment. The committee noted that real GDP growth for the first half of the current fiscal year (July‑December) was 3.8 percent.
