Indonesian Government Imposes Higher Fuel Levy on Domestic Airlines Amid Energy Shortage

Indonesian air passengers can expect to pay more for their flights as the government has introduced a significant hike in fuel surcharges for domestic airlines, a move aimed at mitigating the impact of soaring oil prices and dwindling supplies. According to Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, the fuel surcharge has been increased by 38 percent, a decision made after consulting with the airlines. The purpose of the surcharge is to enable air carriers to absorb the escalating operational costs without entirely shifting the burden of rising fuel prices onto passengers.
