Lebanon’s Divisions Widen as Israeli Strikes Intensify

In the predominantly Christian neighborhood of Ain Saadeh, east of Beirut, a devastating blast ripped through a building on Sunday evening, claiming the lives of three individuals. Georges, a 44-year-old resident, had just answered a phone call in his kitchen when the explosion shook the structure behind him. The Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed that Pierre Moawad, a member of the Lebanese Forces, a Christian party opposed to Hezbollah, along with his wife Flavia and their friend Roula Mattar, perished in the attack.

The victims of Israel’s aggression in Lebanon have predominantly been Shia Muslims, including those not affiliated with the Iran-backed Hezbollah group. However, on Sunday, Christians and Sudanese nationals also fell victim to Israeli airstrikes, marking one of the most violent days in Lebanon since the US-Israel conflict with Iran escalated in early March.
