Lufthansa Anticipates Global Jet Fuel Shortages Beyond European Borders

Lufthansa is taking proactive measures to mitigate potential jet fuel shortages outside of Europe, as the airline’s CEO, Carsten Spohr, has identified early warning signs in Asia stemming from the Iran conflict’s disruption of supply routes. According to Spohr, in an interview with the FAZ newspaper, shortages in kerosene supply are more likely to be felt first in regions outside of Europe. Furthermore, Spohr revealed that some Asian airports have begun to restrict additional flights due to limited fuel availability. Notably, Lufthansa has successfully hedged over 80 percent of its fuel requirements for 2026.
